Ordering brochures and posters for Public Education classes has just become more user -friendly. The frustration of hoping that a certain brochure will meet your class needs has been eliminated. Instructors can now examine the contents of all PE Brochures and posters on the E-Library. The screen shots may also be enlarged so that the contents may be previewed prior to ordering. As brochures and posters become available, the E- Department will update the site. Visit the new Brochure Center.

The On Water Training Manual (OWT) has been updated. The updates include new cross-references of tasks to the courses now being used: About Boating Safely, second edition; Boating Skills & Seamanship, 13th edition; and Sailing Skills & Seamanship, 6th edition. Other changes are minor job new titles. The new Manual is available on the E-Library.

ANSC pamphlet 3022 US AIDS TO NAVIGATION - has been revised and is now in stock. This glossy 34 page pamphlet is designed to help the recreational boater better understand the principle use and identification of the U.S. Aids to Navigation Systems. But it is so informative it can serve as a quick boating primer.

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced last week that it has re-activated its emergency Family Disaster Relief Fund. Foundation principals responded to the recent crash of a C-130 off the California coast. The relief fund was established in 2008, in the wake of a helicopter crash in Hawaii that resulted in the loss of four Coast Guard members. The Foundation is appealing for financial support to assist the families of the lost crew of CG-1705. Those wishing to contribute may visit USCG Foundation Relief Fund, or call the Foundation at 1-860-535-0786, or fax a note to 1-860-535-0944 with donation information and a reference to the CG-1705 Disaster Relief.

Class times are Wed & Thurs 0800 – 1700, end 1200 Friday with graduation. All air reservations are to go through SATO, government travel agent (800-753-7286), and can be charged to your orders, no out of pocket expense. The location is Renaissance Airport (a Marriott Hotel) 9801 Natural Bridge Rd. Room rate is $70.00 per night, free shuttle to and from airport. There is an AMLOC Leadership class at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, OK, 17 - 20 Dec 2009. The call for orders will be 1 Nov. This is the class that any new DCDR, VDCDR or a FC, with one AUXLAMS course completed, should take to learn the tools for a successful term as an elected officer. Travel day is 17 Dec with class beginning Friday afternoon and ends on Sunday, 20 Dec, about 1200. All air travel is to be booked through SATO, the government travel agent, so air fare can be charged to your orders, NO OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE! Course code is 501805. Please go to the training web page and look under C-School info to find out how to apply for C-Schools. You will also find additional information regarding all C-Schools. You need to know that if you commit to a C-School you need to attend and complete all work assignments and any additional homework after the class ends. Not completing assignments after the class ends and canceling or not attending a C-School leaves you open to penalties!

It gives me pleasure to announce that Russ Venti has been appointed to Division Chief of the AuxCHEF Division in the National Department of Personnel. Mr. Venti has been working on station as well as on cutters since 1998, and was one of the first auxiliary members to go through the AuxChef program when it was a pilot program. Russ will be using his AuxChef skills aboard the 87' cutter Petrel leaving San Diego on a one week assignment. Russ's last assignment was as Branch Chief AuxChef-Pacific.

One of his friends on the boat spotted two girls floating in the middle of the river and the Auxiliarist's skills went into action.
