- 2007 Vessel Exam (VE) And Program Visitor (PV) Workshops Released
The US Coast Guard Auxiliary National V Department has released the 2007 VE and PV Workshops. The workshops for 2007 are not mandatory but units are encouraged to hold the workshops to better the knowledge of their Vessel Examiners and Program Visitors. The workshops are also available on CD from ANSC, the V Department 2007 Workshop CD is ANSC 2001A.

- Auxiliarists Receive Canadian Recognition
United States Coast Guard Air Station Detroit, its active duty and Auxiliary air crews were given recognition by the Toronto Police Services Board for its on going Homeland Security missions. Those missions support several law enforcement teams along our international border. The recognition for their selfless devotion to duty took place at police headquarters during the Canadian city’s annual awards ceremonies. - N-Train 2007
The National Training Conference (N-Train) is being held at the Renaissance Hotel St. Louis-Airport on January 26-28, 2007. Meetings of the NEXCOM and OPCOM as well as the Auxiliary Nation Board are also scheduled. The deadline (January 8, 2007) for hotel reservations is rapidly approaching. - AUXAIR Present At “Blue Angels” Anniversary Bash
Local Auxiliary pilots and air crew, with their aircraft and static display, were on hand when the Navy’s “Blue Angels” performed for their unit’s 60th anniversary on Veteran’s Day. The Pensacola , FL air show drew over 500,000 public attendees. See how this flotilla increased the public’s awareness of Auxiliary air operations. Now on SITREP, the Auxiliary’s National e-magazine.

- National Awards List Available
A list of National Auxiliary Awards (PDF: 235 KB / 11 pages) established by the National Board and/or Coast Guard Auxiliary authority other than the National Board (e.g. NEXCOM, NACO) has been prepared. These awards represent great opportunities to recognize unit and individual excellence – such recognition is one key tool to recruit and retain an effective membership. Please use the list to determine which of these awards unit or individual members may be qualified to receive. Remember that there is also a full range of Auxiliary and Coast Guard awards detailed in Chapter 11 of the Auxiliary Manual.

- Free Soundings Magazine Subscription
Soundings Magazine will supply a free annual subscription to all CY 2007 consenting FC's and all consenting PE officers at the national, district and flotilla levels. Only those members giving their 2007 positions as FC or PE staff officers may sign up to be placed on this program. To do so, email David Delich (Branch Chief, Boating Liaison Publications). The final deadline for the 2007 signup is 11 January 2007. No applications will be processed after that date. Provide: Name, mailing address, position, flotilla, and district.

- Coast Guard Auxiliary Leadership Guidance Team
It is my pleasure to announce the establishment of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Leadership Guidance Team (LGT). This team will design and implement leadership development training programs for the Coast Guard Auxiliary, working in partnership with the National Department of Training. The LGT will have the responsibility to develop and manage the implementation of a fully integrated curriculum of leadership training from the FC through the DCO.

- Request For Nominations For The New Auxiliarist Of The Year Award
The New Auxiliarist of the Year (NAUXOY) award recognizes the most exemplary performance by an eligible Auxiliarist during the previous calendar year. Only those Auxiliarists who demonstrated sustained, exceptional standards of proficiency and conduct, and whose appearance and bearing were consistently impeccable, shall be considered for nomination. - Pentagon Federal Credit Union
In a recent mailing that includes a coupon for Free First Deposit, the Pentagon Federal Credit Union now offers membership to Auxiliarists. In addition, their available no-annual fee VISA Platinum Cash Rewards credit card provides 1% cash back to members as well as 0.25% going to support Auxiliary programs. Joining the Pentagon Federal Credit Union opens the door to all of their superior-rated financial services. The previous agreement with MBNA-BOA for providing members an Auxiliary credit card has expired. Members who wish to retain that card may do so but MBNA-BOA no longer provides financial support in support of Auxiliary programs.

- Tall Stacks Festival
Held every four years in Cincinnati, Ohio, the “Tall Stacks Music, Arts & Heritage Festival” is a weekend of music, food, fun and riverboats that entertain and educate thousands. This year the festival brought in 14 paddle wheelers from as far away as Nashville, New Orleans, and Galveston, Texas, including the 382 ft steam powered Mississippi Queen. While Coast Guard units maintained security, Auxiliary units maintained no-wake zones, directed river traffic and performed assists as needed. - 2007 Vessel Safety Check (VSC) Decals Now Available at ANSC
Orders for 2007 VSC decals can now be placed by unit elected and materials officers with the Auxiliary National Supply Center (ANSC). VSC specific ordering instructions (PDF: 80 KB / 1 page) and a VSC specific order form (PDF: 154 KB / 2 pages) are provided for ordering decals, forms, and other key materials that vessel examiners will find useful in executing their job.
